Celebrate Global Hug Your Kids Day at Your Church or Other Faith Organization

Jesus hugged children

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me... And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. Mark 10: 13 - 16 NIV

Family Hugs Strengthen Churches and Faith Organizations

What's unique about Global Hug Your Kids Day is we don't need to raise money! We don't do research or look for cures. We just want to get more kids and families hugged - and hugs are free! Yet churches and other faith organizations can use the holiday to increase fellowship or just have some fun.

Speaking of free, there is no charge from Hug Your Kids Day Headquarters to have an event. We'll even help you publicize it on our website! We'd prefer that you have the event for free, or at cost. If you raise money or donations, please use it for a worthy cause. Just let us know, and we'll help you publicize that too! The holiday is already on the official holiday calendar. Our goal is to generate hugs! We'd love you to plan a simple event in your church or town to encourage families to hug.

It's OK to hold your event a day or two before or after before the official holiday. Obviously, we ask that events be wholesome in nature. If offsite, check with your local city or county for guidelines. We encourage a welcoming attitude unless the event is just for your members. Contact us to discuss your ideas and let's work together!

Ideas for Your Church or Faith Organization

  1. Marquee - Post it on your sign out front: Happy Hug Your Kids Day! or Hug Your Kids Today! or Have You Hugged Your Kids Today?
  2. Press Release - Send out a press release to your local newspapers, radio, and TV stations announcing that Monday, July 16, is Global Hug Your Kids Day and what your church or faith organization is doing to celebrate it.
  3. Social Media - Announce the holiday and your plans on your Website or Facebook page where your members can post a photo of them hugging their kids or loved ones. Maybe have a contest for cutest hug photos. "ABC Church Families Love to Hug Their Kids."
  4. Big Hug Photo - Invite your member families to gather before or after services and take a group photo of parents hugging their kids. If you want, you can encourage them to wear your church's t-shirt or hat. Feel free to sell or make available copies of the "ABC Church Group Hug 2012" and submit it to your local newspaper too.
  5. Big Hug Movie - Take photos of families hugging as they come to / from your services. Then put the photos together in a movie and show it at services next week! Everyone loves to see themselves in pictures or videos. You can use our song,or add your own. If you put it up on YouTube, please let us know and we'll add it to our YouTube channel.
  6. Hug Your Kids Pancake Breakfast - or Dinner - Families have to hug before they get their food.
  7. Community Hug Event - Put on your own community event. Have a photographer take a photo of everyone hugging their kids, and one big hug where all parents hug their kids.  Great PR for your local media - TV or newspaper.
  8. Sunday School Class Competition - Have a competition to see which Sunday School Class or other group had the highest hug-rate.  Remind them that everyone who gave a hug - and got one back - is a winner.
  9. "Hug Dog" Feed - Sell hot dogs but call them Hug Dogs. Maybe have someone dressed up like a hot dog and kids get their photo with it. Maybe have old-fashioned sack races and other fun, summer games. You could make a YouTube video, perhaps with our song Hug Your Kids Today, playing in the background. Post it on YouTube and send us the link! Click here for more information.

  10. Hug Your Kids Balloon Release - Have pink, blue (and camo for military?) balloons that famlies can personalize and then release all at once. Can be in celebration of their children or in memory of children/ loved ones who have died.

  11. Hug Art Event - Invite an artist to paint a Hug-themed painting while a speaker talks about the importance of Hugs. Then have a live auction of the painting and use the money for one of your projects - or donate some of it to us.
